Preston High improves academics

KINGWOOD — Preston High detailed its work to improve academic success at a recent Preston County Board of Education meeting.

Principal Steve Plum and Assistant Principal Brenda Layton gave the report on behalf of the school’s Local School Improvement Council.

Preston is one of three counties in West Virginia — Monongalia and Mineral are the others — named to the Eighth Annual College Board AP Honor Roll. In order to make the honor roll, schools had to make specific advances.

A study of high school students in the Class of 2016 showed an average of 31 percent statewide needed remedial courses when they entered college, but only 16 percent of Preston students needed remedial courses.
