$100K approved for expansion of plastics company

MORGANTOWN — The company that is known today as Addivant has a connection with Morgantown that stretches back to the 1940s, starting with DuPont Manufacturing.

Jon Kimmel, site director of the company’s Morgantown Industrial Park headquarters, explained that Addivant is a worldwide leader in the creation of plastics stabilizers and is expanding rapidly following the 2017 release of Weston 705, a liquid antioxidant approved for use in food packaging in 180 countries.

Kimmel and Rocky Gianola, representing the Monongalia County Development Authority (MCDA), recently asked the Monongalia County Commission to request the release of $100,000 from the Coal Bed Methane Fund to assist with the company’s plans.

According to Kimmel, the company is in the midst of a $13 million expansion plan. He said these funds will be used on a couple projects, including the implementation of industry-standard software, PI Data Historian and the replacement of inefficient overhead lighting.

The commission approved the request, which came with the recommendation of the MCDA.
