WVU football adds 4-star pass rusher, picks up 2 more for big day recruiting

MORGANTOWN — Rich Rodriguez and West Virginia football had its biggest day on the recruiting trail on Thursday for the 2027 class, picking up three big recruits.

The big day was highlighted by earning a commitment from 4-star pass rusher Chris Wilson, who announced on social media that he’s committed to the Mountaineers. Wilson is now WVU’s top commit for the 2027 class and is rated as the 26th pass rusher in the class and No. 4 overall recruit out of Indiana.

The Yorktown, Indiana, native picked the Mountaineers over multiple Power Four schools. WVU beat out Iowa State, Cincinnati, Auburn and Purdue. He committed to the gold and blue just after his official visit. Wilson had official visits lined up with Purdue and Auburn, but he chose Rodriguez and company.

Wilson is a big 6-foot-5, 235-pound defensive lineman who demolishes quarterbacks using his size to his advantage. According to MaxPreps, in his junior year, he played in 12 games and registered seven tackles for loss and four sacks. He also defended four passes and had an interception.

He’s the second pass rusher for new pass rushers coach, Deke Adams.

Wilson wasn’t the only commit. The Mountaineers also added a pair of 3-stars, stealing them from Power Four schools.

WVU flipped 3-star cornerback Zachary Gleason Jr. from Penn State, where he was committed since the end of March. Gleason took multiple official visits, including recently with the Nittany Lions and Virginia Tech.

The Pittsburgh native is rated as the 20th-ranked player in Pennsylvania and the 75th corner in the class. Gleason did it all for Central Catholic. On offense, Gleason had three catches for 94 yards and a touchdown, and he also returned kicks. In 15 games on defense, Gleason had four tackles for loss, a sack and three interceptions.

He’s the second defensive back for the class, joining 4-star Carter Bonner.

WVU also added an offensive weapon, in between the two defensive additions. 3-star wide receiver Brock Burrus announced on social media that he’s committed to the Mountaineers. Burrus picked the gold and blue over Arizona State, Florida, Purdue and N.C. State. He had official visits lined up with the Wolfpack and Georgia Tech.

Burrus is another tall addition to the 2027 class. He stands at 6-foot-5, 190 pounds, and is rated as the No. 107 receiver in the class. For Kell High School in Georgia, Burrus played in 13 games and caught 21 passes for 372 yards and two touchdowns.

He’s the fourth receiver for the class. WVU just added Carter Davis on Monday.

With the three new additions, the Mountaineers are up to 18 recruits for the 2027 class, and are now in the top 30 for recruiting classes. WVU has the third-best class in the Big 12, just behind Texas Tech and Kansas State. The Mountaineers will likely have more commitments coming in with loads of recruits on official visits. But WVU still had one of its best days yet for the 2027 class.
