Bertie Mae Zirkle Stone

Bertie Mae Zirkle Stone, 89, of Scotch Hill Community, Newburg, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026, in her daughters’ residence, with family by her side. She was born September 26, 1936, at home in Rich Mountain Battlefield in Mabie (Randoloph County), the daughter of the late Daniel B. and Emily J. Shreve Zirkle.
Bertie enjoyed camping, listening to music and the trading post, having family reunions and functions, and going square dancing with Bud. She loved spending time with her kids, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Bertie is survived by her four children, Sheila J. (Ringer) Braddock (Joseph) of Independence, Kenneth D. Stone (Sherry) of Newburg, Wilma Summers (companion Mark Jackson) of Thornton, and Dennis J. Stone (Carolyn) of Scotch Hill; one daughter-in-law, Pamela Stone of Philippi; 10 grandchildren, Delbert (companion April), Amy (companion Jimmy), Melissa (Jerry), Jeffery (Candice), Amanda (Ronnie), KW (Ginny), Jesse (companion Jessica), Cody (Brooke), Krystle (Rennes), Cory (Sara); 20 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Conner, Sabrina, Kaitlin, Austin, Stefen, Savanna, Mitchell, Clayton, Hannah, Ryan, Braylynn, Brinlee, Amya, Madsion, Zoe, Leandra, Penelope, Cohen and Eva; three great-great-grandchildren, Waylon, Georgy and Michael Ray; one sister, Emma Jean Simmons of Mabie; four brothers: Loyd Jack Zirkle of Medina, Ohio; Raymond Neal Zirkle of Las Vegas, Nev.; Junior Leon Zirkle of Mabie; and James L. Zirkle of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Bertie was preceded in death by husband, Vernon “Bud” Ray Stone; one son, Danny Stone; daughter-in-law, Loretta Stone; four sisters, Nellie M. Carver, Edith Virginia Zirkle, Betty Sturdivent, Artie Shiffett; two brothers, Andrew Zirkle and Daniel Eddie Zirkle.
Family and friends will be received in the Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Avenue, Newburg, from 1 until the time of the funeral service at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 6, with Pastor Eddie Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Israel Cemetery.
