Barbara Jean Barnett, 81, of Kingwood, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026, in the same community where she was born November 28, 1944. She lived her life with warmth, strength, and a deep devotion to the people she loved, and she will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
Barbara was born in Kingwood to Harley and Bessy Miller and grew up as part of a large and close-knit family of 11 siblings.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale E. Barnett; as well as by her parents, Harley and Bessy Miller.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Patricia Shannon and Barry Zinn of Maidsville; and by her son, Gary Miller and wife Amy of Morgantown. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren, each of whom brought her great pride and joy.
Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Whether gathered for a visit, a meal, or a special occasion, Barbara found her greatest happiness in being surrounded by those she loved.
Barbara had a special love for music, and she enjoyed singing and playing the accordion. Her favorite song to sing was “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” a song that reflected her spirit and the life she knew so well. Music was one of the many ways she expressed her joy and shared her personality with others. Her voice and her accordion playing brought smiles to family and friends, and those memories will be cherished for years to come.
Family and friends are invited to gather in McCulla Funeral Home Sunday, June 14, from 1 until the time of a funeral service at 4 p.m., with Pastor Junius Lewis officiating. Following the service, McCulla Funeral Home will provide cremation service.
