Second camera found in a restroom at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital

MORGANTOWN — According to a WVU Hospitals Spokesperson, a report of a clogged toilet led to the discovery of another recording device in a non-public, staff restroom at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

This is the second such device found in a staff restroom since Friday.

Friday’s initial discovery led to the suspension of a hospital employee and launched a criminal investigation.

The employee in question has since been terminated, according to the hospital representative.

“On Tuesday, June 30, a WVU Hospitals facilities team member responding to reports of a clogged toilet discovered a second recording device had been flushed down a non-public, staff restroom at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

The second camera has been turned over to law enforcement, and based on the information we have been able to gather to date, a termination notice has been sent to the identified employee.

We will continue to work with law enforcement and the Monongalia County Prosecutor’s Office as the investigation continues.”

Following the discovery the initial device on Friday, both the public and staff restrooms across the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital Medical Campus and its affiliated institutes, as well as Children’s Hospital, the Health Sciences Center, and Fairmont Medical Center, were inspected to ensure there were no other cameras. None was found.
