Alexander John Kish, Jr., known to many as Alex, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in WVU Medicine in Morgantown, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 18, 1946, in New Brunswick, N.J., and lived a life marked by faith, kindness, devotion to family, and service to others.

Alex was the beloved son of the late Alex Kish and the late Theresa Scurato Kish.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Susan Core Kish, who shared with him a lifetime of love, companionship, and steadfast support.

He is also survived by his brother, Michael Kish and wife Mary; as well as his nephews, Paul and Dennis Kish; his great-niece, Eirinn Kish; several cousins, and many other close family members and friends, who will cherish his memory always.

Alex proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. His commitment to duty remained an important part of his identity throughout his life. He was honored alongside his father by South Brunswick Township, N.J. for his military service, a recognition that was especially meaningful to him and commemorated by the street sign "Kish Way." That honor reflected the respect he earned through a life of integrity and service.

Education was important to Alex, and he pursued it with determination and purpose. He earned his bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and later received his master's degree and teacher certifications from West Virginia University. His academic achievements opened the door to a meaningful career in higher education and laboratory science.

Alex worked as a teacher at WVU and Fairmont State University and later retired from his position as lab manager for Microbiology from WVU. In each role, he was known for his knowledge, patience, and dedication to helping others learn and succeed. He made a lasting impression on students, colleagues, and all who worked with him.

Alex's faith was central to who he was. He served faithfully as an elder at Dolls Run Christian Church, where he also gave his time as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, and church treasurer. His service to the church reflected the same dedication and humility that guided every part of his life. He was a man who lived his beliefs through action, and his example was a blessing to all who knew him.

In his younger years, Alex enjoyed playing basketball and baseball, and those early interests remained a fond part of his story throughout his life. As the years went by, he found great joy in attending WVU football and basketball games, and he also enjoyed attending Black Bear baseball games. He also loved to travel, and those journeys brought him happiness and lasting memories. Whether at home, at church, at work, or on the road, Alex embraced life with a gentle spirit and a grateful heart.

Friends may gather in McCulla Funeral Home Sunday, August 23, from 2 to 5 p.m., and again Monday, August 24, from 10 until 11 a.m., when funeral services will begin, with Pastor Jerry Teter officiating.
