BLACKSVILLE — Clay-Battelle senior Maggie Lemley will continue her academic and athletic career at Glenville State University, signing to compete in track and field at the collegiate level.
For Lemley, the decision felt natural.
“I’ve kind of always wanted to go to Glenville,” she said. “It’s small, it’s close to home, and it makes me feel like I’m still at home.”
That familiarity, combined with the presence of former teammates already on the roster, made the transition even more appealing. Lemley said she is especially excited to reunite with those runners while joining a program she believes is on the rise, bolstered by a new hurdles coach and recent improvements.
On the track, Lemley expects to focus primarily on the 400-meter hurdles and 100-meter high hurdles, with the possibility of contributing in the high jump as well.

Glenville ultimately separated itself from the rest of her recruitment. While Concord University also showed interest, Lemley said her focus narrowed quickly once Glenville reached out.
“I kind of stopped talking to everybody else,” she said.
During her campus visit, Lemley had the opportunity to experience a quieter side of the university, touring during finals week. The setting allowed for more one-on-one time with her guide and a closer look at campus life.
“I really liked it,” she said. “It’s small, so I won’t get lost.”
Her conversations with the coaching staff further reinforced her decision, highlighting a welcoming and supportive environment.
Lemley credits her development at Clay-Battelle High School for preparing her for the next level. Coached in part by her father, she said her training intensified once her college plans became official, with added emphasis on endurance and weightlifting.
Off the track, Lemley plans to major in pre-physical therapy, inspired by her aunt’s background in athletic training and physical therapy.
As she looks ahead, Lemley said her high school track experiences — particularly last season — stand among her most meaningful memories, setting the foundation for what comes next.
