Prep softball roundup: UHS takes first Mohawk matchup; Clay-Battelle winners of two in a row

MORGANTOWN – The 2026 softball season is well underway across the state.

Two of the top teams in Class AAAA are crosstown rivals Morgantown and University, which met on Lynch Field at Mylan Park on Wednesday evening for the first matchup of the young season.

University improved to 6-0 with a 5-1 victory over the Mohigans.

Six Hawks totaled seven hits while senior Sophia Lehosit threw a complete game with seven strikeouts and four hits allowed.

UHS freshman Taylor Casino led her team offensively, batting 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI.

Kira Smith had the lone RBI for MHS with a single to left field in the top of the seventh inning.

MHS will travel to visit Preston on Thursday. UHS will end the month traveling south to Florida, where they will play multiple games.

Clay-Battelle

Clay-Battelle picked up its first two wins of the season with a 4-3 victory over Cameron on Monday and a 16-1 triumph over Valley Wetzel on Tuesday.

The Cee-Bees tallied 17 hits in the victory over Valley and will visit Steubenville Catholic on Thursday.
