WVU men’s hoops adds 2026 commitment from Kingston Whitty

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia has added another piece to the 2026 recruiting class with a commitment from fast-rising Christ School (N.C.) point guard Kingston Whitty.

Whitty, 6-foot-2, 165-pounds, saw his recruitment take off after an impressive performance in the Under Armor Association where he averaged 18.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. That led to his recruitment taking off with a number of scholarship offers including one from the Mountaineers.

West Virginia was able to host Whitty for an official visit in mid-September and shortly after that trip head coach Ross Hodge and his coaching staff extended an offer.

It wouldn’t take Whitty too long to take that opportunity and he announced his pledge to the program.

The guard also held offers from Marshall, Toledo, Old Dominion, George Mason, Liberty, New Mexico State and a number of others and was receiving interest from programs such as Tennessee.

Whitty is a long, athletic point guard who can score on all three levels and is a plus facilitator. He also is active on the defensive end of the floor which makes him a strong fit for what Hodge wants to do.

Whitty joins four-star Bella Vista Prep (Co.) big Aliou Dioum in the 2026 recruiting class giving Hodge a nice base for what the class could eventually look like. The Mountaineers now have added a fast-rising point guard for the future with senior Jasper Floyd set to exhaust his eligibility at the end of the season.

That duo should pair with Amir Jenkins, who reclassified to join the program this offseason, from the 2026 cycle.

The Mountaineers are still actively recruiting another top target for 2026 in Miles Sandler, the No. 20 ranked prospect nationally. Sadler is set to take an official visit to Morgantown on Oct. 24.

He is ranked as the No. 3 point guard in his class by Rivals.com and is also the high school teammate of Dioum.

West Virginia has been active filling the 2026 cycle and Whitty is another plus addition.
