Fairmont State’s 24-hour ‘Day of Giving’ upcoming

FAIRMONT – Next week, Fairmont State University is investing in … Fairmont State University.

The annual “Day of Giving” campaign commences on campus Feb. 26, and it’s a 24-hour altruistic overture of altruism benefitting some 100 programs that make the university go, organizers said.

Anne Bolyard, who is president of the Fairmont State University Foundation, said the event isn’t just about opening one’s wallet – it’s about elevating the possibilities of the place that is the intellectual home to students across West Virginia and the region.

“Each year, Day of Giving reminds us of what’s possible when the Fairmont State community comes together with a shared purpose,” she said.

When it was all done last year, donors kicked in $715,000 to the university.

This year’s goal is $800,000, Bolyard said, which is ambitious, but not insurmountable.

Owe that, she said, to the loyalty graduates have to their alma mater and to other benefactors who understand the width and breadth of the hometown university’s academic mission.

Said donors, she said, have a tradition of offering up matching gifts to advance and amplify that mission even more.

“The momentum continues to grow,” she said.

Every gift, she said – no matter the size – means something for student life, scholarships, academics and athletics.

And 24 hours, she said, means just that. Day of Giving will be livestreamed for the duration, featuring conversations with campus leaders, video showcases of students and programs and tote-board updates as the donations come in.

Visit www.falconsgive.org/give to make your gift, Bolyard said.

You can also call Fairmont State University Foundation at 304-534-8786.

If you prefer, she said, you can donate in person. The foundation’s offices are at 1300 Locust Ave., directly across the street from campus.
