Christine Ann Osecky Godfrey, 92, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, August 21, 2026, in Morgantown.
She was born December 15, 1933, in Jere, a daughter of the late Samuel Osecky and Marina Osadchuk Osecky. Christine lived a long and meaningful life marked by kindness, devotion to family, and a warm, friendly spirit that touched all who knew her.
Christine graduated from University High School in 1951 and continued her education at Morgantown Business School, where she graduated in 1952. She later devoted many years of service to West Virginia University, retiring in 1994 as a secretary for the School of Physical Education and the Athletic Department. Her work was appreciated by colleagues and students alike, and she was known for her dependable nature and pleasant manner.
Christine was a faithful member of Riverside United Methodist Church for more than 60 years and also belonged to the Westside Senior Center. Christine valued her church family and enjoyed the fellowship and friendships she found through her community involvement. Her life reflected steady faith, quiet strength, and a genuine care for others.
Christine found joy in simple pleasures. She loved to read mysteries, and her favorite author was Agatha Christie. She also enjoyed old movies, with Random Harvest holding a special place in her heart. In addition, she was well known for her baking, especially her Christmas cookies and her delicious cream horns, which were enjoyed by family and friends over the years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald E. Godfrey, Sr.; her son, Donald E. Godfrey, Jr.; her father, Samuel Osecky; her mother, Marina Osadchuk Osecky; her sisters, Ann Lomenzo, Mary Hughes, Helen Selensky, Stella Wotring, Patricia Osecky; her brothers, Benny Osecky, Peter Osecky, Stanley Osecky, William Osecky, Samuel Osecky, Jr., and Thomas Osecky.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Godfrey, as well as many nieces and nephews, great- nieces and great- nephews, and great- great-nieces and great- great-nephews.
The family extends special thanks for the care Christine received on the fourth and sixth floors at Mon General, as well as to Hospice care from WV Caring.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions may be made, in her memory, to Westside Senior Center, 500 Dupont Road Westover, WV 26501.
Friends will be welcomed to gather in McCulla Funeral Home Tuesday, August 25, from 5 to 7 p.m., and again Wednesday, August 26, from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service, with Pastor Jim Weber officiating. Following the service, Christine will be laid to rest at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
