‘Team Fairmont’ mini-grant program announced

FAIRMONT - What would you do with $3,500 to help improve the City of Fairmont?
Now you’ll have a chance to let your municipality know.
The city is offering up to $3,500 to six local organizations and community partners through its inaugural Team Fairmont Mini-Grant program.
"We hope that these grants will empower citizens to initiate, lead and plan community improvement projects," said Erin Hager, the city's assistant planner.
An informational session is set from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the conference room of the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, at 110 Adams St.
The upcoming offering is a springboard of Fairmont's successful Cultivate Mini-Grants program of last year, Hager said.
Both private citizens and representatives of civic booster organizations are encouraged to attend, Hager said - even those who may not have a solid project idea as of yet.
Implementing safety measures for a neighborhood could be one approach, she said.
Revitalizing a public space is another, Hager added.
Wednesday will be about dialogue and dollars, Fairmont Grant Administrator Rene Graves said.
"As a local government, we have an obligation to not only seek grants, but to issue grants back to the community," Graves said.
The "cultivate" in the Cultivate Mini-Grants program is an apt descriptor, she said.
"After that success, we had a framework to keep the program alive," she continued. "We hope that this will allow us to grow - and allow us to fund the projects our residents want to see done."
