Ralph Junior Cress, 89, of Morgantown, died Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Morgantown November 3, 1936, a son of the late Lloyd and Mary Darnell Cress.
He had worked in the coal mines, from the time he was 14 working with his father, until his retirement. Ralph enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and looking for ginseng.
He is survived by a sister, Louise Rhome of New Geneva; a brother, Charles Cress of Morgantown; and a number of nieces and nephews, including his caregivers for the past several years, Joey, Jordan, Christina, Shirley and Genesis.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Bruce and Russell Cress; and sisters, Nancy Ellen Deavers, Mae Cress, Mabel Rhome and Mary "Tina" Schrout.
Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, Pa., Tuesday, August 25, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A brief funeral service will begin at 8 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Charles Bowser officiating.
