UPDATED: Mon County Sheriff’s Office responds to incident; bus drop-offs temporarily modified

At about 2 p.m. Tuesday, Monongalia County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Marina Drive, off Mont Chateau Road in Cheat Lake, following a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies determined that the individual who allegedly discharged the weapon fired into the surrounding wooded area, not toward any person. Monongalia County Sheriff's deputies, alongside the West Virginia State Police, safely took the individual into custody without incident. The individual was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Out of an abundance of caution, and in coordination with the Monongalia County Board of Education, afternoon bus drop-offs were temporarily delayed to minimize traffic and ensure public safety.
At 3:09 p.m., the scene was cleared, and normal traffic flow resumed.
The Monongalia County Sheriff's Office thanks all responding agencies and community members for their cooperation in bringing this situation to a peaceful resolution.
