Morgantown swept the Mountaineer Showcase at Mylan Park Friday, as both the boys’ and girls’ teams overwhelmed both field and track events.

The girls’ team took first with 141 points, while Buckhannon-Upshur (83) and Preston (61) came in second and third, respectively.

Yelena Davidson picked up the first win for MHS in the 400 meter in 1:00.92. Lea Hatcher added 10 points to MHS’s overall score with a win in the 1,600 (5:08), and Irene Riggs picked up another distance win in the 3,200, easily defeating her opponents in 10:24 — nearly 40 seconds faster than second-place finisher Allie Martin (Preston).

The girls’ 4×100 meter and 4×200 relay teams rounded out running event wins for the Mohigans, while Morgan Ryan added the final win in pole vault at 2.89 meters.

For University, Sierra Lanham won the 100 and 200 meter dashes with times of 13.10 and 27.03, respectively. UHS’s final running event win came in the 4×800 relay at 10:26. In field events, Lanham tacked on a win in the long jump at 5.10 meters.

Ella White notched a win in the 800 meter with a time of 2:31.29, edging MHS’s Madeline Gump by less than a second.

On the boys’ side, MHS won the meet with 167 points ahead of Bridgeport Senior (99) and UHS (71).

Marquis Mauney started out the high-scoring day for the Mohigans with a win in the 100 meter at 11.06, and Kirk Black tacked on a win in the 200 meter at 23.13. John Michael Saldanha (400 meter, 51.85) and Alex Tadros (300 meter hurdles, 41.81) rounded out the individual track event wins. MHS picked up wins in the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 relays as well. Finally, Lucas Howell and Landon Young, shared first place in pole vault at 4.11 meters, and Yohann Nenebi (Shot put, 11.91 meters; discus 38.43 meters) picked up wins in field events to close the day for MHS.

UHS’s Larry Josh Edwards secured the only individual track win for the Hawks in the 3,200 meter at 8:49. The win, though the only one for UHS, was good to snap the event’s state record. UHS’s 4×800 relay team picked up the Hawks’ final running win of the day. Daminn Cunningham rounded out University’s wins in the long jump, hitting 6.73 meters.

Clay-Battelle senior Chase Ammons picked up a win in the 800 meter at 2:01 and was the only win for a Cee-Bee.
