FAIRMONT - "It's alive! "It's alive!"

If you're old enough to have watched "monster" movies on Saturday night TV, you know the above, chapter and verse.

That's what Colin Clive as Dr. Henry Frankenstein exclaimed in the famous movie "Frankenstein" - the 1931 Universal Studios classic launched a whole Halloween franchise - as the hand of Boris Karloff as the Creature finally began to twitch.

Downtown Fairmont on Saturday, Oct. 24, meanwhile will be twitching with lots of pre-Halloween fun during the Frank N Stein Craft Beer & Hot Dog Festival on Monroe Street.

Main Street Fairmont is the sponsor of the annual event that brings a host of characters, done out as Mr. Karloff's most famous acting role and otherwise, to partake of the fun pairing.

As the organizers asked: How can one go wrong with hot dogs and craft beer?

Especially when the pairing puts Fairmont in its own starring role, they said, answering their own question.

The suds, meanwhile, are courtesy of breweries around West Virginia and the region.

Besides all the other food from a host of vendors, hot dogs, of course, were the culinary kings of the castle for this one.

Fairmont's legendary Yann Dogs even made a first-ever appearance at the proceedings.

There were exclusive tastings, VIP perks and fun, after-hours perks to animate, and reanimate, just about everyone out there.

Said festival even inspired Fairmont State University to launch its own craft suds during the inaugural outing two years ago.

Alex Petry will lift a stein and dig into a hotdog any day for that kind of sequel, he said.

Petry is the not-so-mad scientist (read, executive director) of Main Street Fairmont, which is quickly morphing Monroe Street into a fun, quirky cultural center of the town that launched the pepperoni roll and Chuck Berry among other firsts.

Petry loves all that history - hidden or otherwise.

"We have that character and all this great architecture and vibrant business downtown," he said.

"All you need to do is pay us a visit."
