Get up and get active with someone you love

BY CHRISTELLE TEMPLE

There’s only one thing better than being active — being able to be active with somebody!

Having someone by your side pushing you, encouraging you, being your own little cheerleader while you’re theirs. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it is the perfect time to grab someone you love, get up, get active and have a great time! There are endless possibilities to get everyone’s heart pumping. If you want to spend this Valentine’s Day doing something out of the box, here are a couple sure-fire ways to bring some adrenaline to your February.

  1. Take a dance class. There is nothing more romantic than learning how to move your hips together to the sound of the beat! Whether it’s hip hop, the tango or a ballroom waltz, learning something new with a loved one is a great way to spend quality time. Visitmountaineercountry has a $25 flat rate for up to eight classes you and your loved ones can attend.
  2. Visit a museum. Yes, walking is a great way to be active. Not only will you be able to walk and talk to your loved one but have the ability to learn something new and be able to make a new memory together. There is an assortment of different museums you can visit in the state of West Virginia or take a quick trip to Pittsburgh and see a museum in the city. In Charleston, the West Virginia State Museum is free to visit and is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday- Saturday.
  3. Go spend the day at a festival. Being able to go out and create a new experience with your loved one is a great way to build those core memories to share for years. Hazel & J.W. Ruby Community Center at Mylan Park is hosting a Chocolate, Wine & Shine Festival Saturday, from noon-3:45 p.m. and 5:15-9 p.m. General admission cost is $40, and a VIP ticket is $75.
  4. Cook a healthy meal together. From beginning to end this could be a great activity to do with a loved one — from looking up a recipe, going to the grocery store and compiling the ingredients, and both of you acting as master chefs in the kitchen. This is a great way to not
only learn a new healthy recipe, but also to build communication and
    work together.
  5. Go bowling and play some arcade games. You can always find weekday deals for bowling, and if you’re a college student attending WVU, you can bowl for free at UpAllNight on the weekends starting at 10 p.m. Bowling is a fun and engaging way to have a little competition. Play some games in the arcade and share some pizza and wings.

There are so many ways to make this Valentine’s Day one to never forget. Valentine’s Day is about spending quality time with your loved ones and being thankful for the time you get to spend with them. What are you going to do this Valentine’s Day?
