Going to the cats and dogs

Mary Ann McDonald (left), from Mountaineer Spay Neuter Assistance Program, brings wrapped candy Tuesday to employees Kayla Brown, office manager Crystal Fraley, Amanda Hughes, Amber Handlin and Dr. Robert Fraley at  AVS Vet Express on Mall Road.

Each year on World Spay Day, which is celebrated the fourth Tuesday in February, the nonprofit thanks the area veterinary   clinics that partner with the all-volunteer organization to assist with its mission  by delivering treats to their offices.

M-SNAP targets one of the main obstacles to fixing cats and dogs — the expense — through its voucher program. This year, its annual Spay Day voucher event is set for 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday outside of ReTails in the Morgantown Mall.

Geared toward owned or managed community cats, 200 vouchers will be given out to residents of Monongalia County. Masks are required. Temperatures will be checked. One person in line per request, and three vouchers per household, per quarter.

If you are unable to make it, you can still request a voucher by calling 304-985-0123 and leaving your contact information in mailbox No. 1.  Info: m-snap.org.
