MORGANTOWN — The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center is seeking volunteers to serve as docents for folklife center tours. The docents will provide tours and information about center exhibits to school groups and other visitors.
Docents are usually people with flexible schedules who like talking about history and culture. They should also enjoy working with groups of all ages and answering questions.
The folklife center is offering training for volunteers at 10 a.m. May 20. The training will include an introduction to the building, a tour of the permanent exhibit, and a handbook that includes a script and stories to accompany the exhibit. Housed in an award-winning repurposed historic barn building on the Fairmont State University campus, the Frank & Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center is home to scholarly research, archives, community programs and events, workshops, and exhibitions.
It houses undergraduate studies in Folklore and Museum Studies.
