Construction begins at development site off Cheat Lake exit

Shawn Fortney, president of Fortney LLC, said things are under way at the development site off the Cheat Lake exit of Interstate 68.

Fortney said groundbreaking was held in February and dirt is being moved to prepare the space for roads and infrastructure.

“We are planning on office space and retail,” he said.

The construction is being contracted out to Landscapes Plus, a local contracting company in Morgantown.

Fortney said this project is something they have been planning on for a few years now.

“There’s a lot of amenities the lakeside needs,” he said.

He is hoping the space will attract a grocery store and some retail, but for starters he said there will be two office buildings going in first.

“Once the roads and infrastructure is in, we will be working on moving other businesses in,” he said.

He did say one larger company will be moving its offices into the newly developed office buildings, but was not ready to say which business. He said the company would likely announce that at a later date.

He said they hope to have the first couple buildings done in the fall, and everything will likely be complete in the spring of 2019.
