Paul Schmidl

Paul Casimer Schmidl, 78, of Bruceton Mills,  died on Sunday, September 30, 2018, in Morgantown.

Paul was born March 11, 1940, in Kingwood, a son of the late John and Anna Mary (Palinowski) Schmidl.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed for four years in Germany. He was a graduate of Kingwood High School. Paul retired on August 18, 1983, after 23 years of service as a Captain with the Washington District of Columbia Fire Fighter Squad, where he also served four Presidencies under Engine 7 Department. He was part of the ambulance service in Washington District of Columbia, a member of St. Luke Catholic Church, the DCFD Local #36 Union in Washington DC and DC Emergency Ambulance Services.

He is survived by two brothers, George Schmidl, of Cleves, Ohio, and John and wife, Waltraud, of Annapolis, Md.; two sisters, Mary Gwaltney, of Gibsonville, N.C., Rose and husband Leland Ashburn, of Waldorf, Md.; nephew, Joe and wife Tina Schmidl, of Kingwood; great-nephew, Joseph Schmidl II, of Kingwood; great-niece, Alexis Schmidl, of Kingwood; and  many other loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Schmidl, Francis Schmidl, and Martin Schmidl; one sister, Caroline Emmart; two brothers-in-law, Earl Gwaltney and William Emmart; and one sister-in-law, Kay Schmidl.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price Street from 4 – 8 p.m.  on Thursday, October 4. A prayer vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Cemetery Chapel at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 5,  with Father Andy Switzer as celebrant. Interment will follow St. Joseph’s Cemetery, where Military honors will be accorded by the Preston County Honor Guard and WVANG Military Funeral Honors, Camp Dawson.
