WVU study organizers seek parents, ninth-graders to participate

MORGANTOWN — The WVU department of psychology is seeking participants for a research project, Emotion Regulation in Parents and Adolescents (ERPA) Study. This project will explore how teens define and pursue happiness, how their attitudes relate to behaviors and functioning and how parents’ attitudes and behaviors relate to their children’s.

Ninth-grade students and their parent(s)/caregivers are invited to participate. There are three parts of the study: One in-person meeting with the teen and guardian(s) for two hours at WVU, the participants’ home or a library to complete surveys and behavioral tasks; and two follow-up surveys, completed online or mailed, six months and one year later.

Each person (teen and guardian) will receive $20 for completing each part, and a $20 bonus if they do all three parts.

Responses are confidential. They will not be shared between parents and teens and participants will never be identified by their responses.

This study is not connected to a child’s school. Participation is completely voluntary.
