Charges pending for motorcyclist who drove into a car

MORGANTOWN — Traffic violation charges are pending against a motorcyclist who drove into the back of a car April 13, according to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department.

Chief Deputy Al Kisner, of the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department, said contributing factors to the collision included speeding and reckless driving, but did not specify what charges would be brought against Joshua Sowell, of Westover.

Sowell was driving a black Yamaha motorcycle when he crashed into the rear of a Pontic Grand Am, driven by Barbra Lantz, on Cheat Road, near Easton Hill.

Kisner said no charges would be filed against Lantz.

Witnesses of the accident told The Dominion Post that when Sowell’s motorcycle hit the vehicle, he  lost his helmet in midair and “flipped five times” before landing on the road.

Sowell was not listed as a patient at Mon Health Medical Center or J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital Thursday.
