MORGANTOWN โ West Virginia baseball’s roster isn’t complete yet. The Mountaineers announced they’ve signed Queens (N.C.) two-way player Ryan Brown for the 2027 season.
As a pitcher, Brown had a promising start to his college career at Queens and was named ASUN Preseason Freshman of the Year, according to D1 Baseball. As a freshman, Brown appeared in 20 games, including seven starts for a total of 59.1 innings. He had a 5.61 ERA, which was the third-best on the team, picked up two saves and struck out 45 batters.
Brown had a career-high seven strikeouts against Florida Gulf Coast, when he threw for a season-high 6.1 innings. He pitched five innings against WVU and held the team scoreless for a little. Brown allowed five earned runs, nine hits and a homer in that span. The Mountaineers won 11-7.
Brown also hit for the Royals. He had 90 at-bats and hit .289 with three doubles and three home runs. He played outfield when he was on the field. At the higher level, Brown will most likely be just a pitcher, especially with the number of bats head coach Steve Sabins brought in through the transfer portal.
He missed the 2026 season after having Tommy John surgery, but should be ready to play for WVU for the 2027 season. Brown is the seventh pitcher added this offseason through the portal and JUCO, looking to rebuild after losing a lot to the MLB and graduation. He is the fourth right-handed arm Sabins has added.
