MORGANTOWN — No. 5 will have his jersey retired on the 5th of September. West Virginia athletics announced it will retire legendary quarterback Pat White’s No. 5 jersey on Sept. 5, 2026, at the 2026 football season-opener against Coastal Carolina. White’s number was announced to be retired on June 5.
WVU is also giving season ticket holders a commemorative ticket enclosed in an acrylic case, noting the date of his retirement ceremony. All season ticket holders who purchase or complete their purchase prior to Aug. 1 will receive the ticket, and it’ll be shipped directly to their account with no additional charge.
White will become the seventh WVU athlete in history to have his number retired, joining Bruce Bosley, Sam Huff, Hot Rod Hundley, Ira Errett Rodgers, Rod Thorn and Jerry West.
