One injured in four-vehicle crash on I-79 south

MONONGALIA COUNTY – The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office is currently on the scene clearing a four-vehicle accident on Interstate 79 Southbound near mile marker 143.

The incident involved two commercial car haulers and two passenger vehicles. During the collision, two vehicles being transported by the haulers became dislodged and blocked the roadway.

Monongalia County EMS transported one individual to a local hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries have been reported at this time.

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office is being assisted on-scene by the West Virginia State Police, the Division of Highways (DOH), Monongalia County EMS, the Clinton District Volunteer Fire Department, the Halleck Road Volunteer Fire Department, and the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Southbound lanes remain heavily congested, but the roadway is expected to reopen shortly. Drivers are advised to use caution and seek alternate routes if possible.

The cause of the accident remains under active investigation. No further details are available at this time.
