Barbara Joan Forbes, known to family and friends as Joan, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026, in Westover, at the age of 92.
Joan was born January 19, 1934, in Clarksburg, to the late Corder Lee Queen and Eva Irena Queen. She carried herself with grace and warmth, and those who knew her will remember her for her gentle spirit, her steady presence, and the care she showed to others throughout her life.
She worked for many years as a secretary for the West Virginia University School of Physical Education, where she was respected for her professionalism, reliability, and friendly manner. Her work reflected the same dedication and attention to detail that she brought to every part of her life. Joan took pride in being helpful to others and in doing her part with humility and grace.
Faith and community were important to Joan. She attended Riverside United Methodist Church and valued the fellowship and comfort she found there. She was also a member of the Westover Women’s Club and the Westover CEO’s, where she enjoyed the companionship of others and remained active in her community. Her involvement in these organizations reflected her interest in staying connected and contributing to the lives around her.
Joan was an avid quilter and seamstress and enjoyed spending time creating quilts for many of her family members and friends.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Bonita Forbes of Cheat Lake and Debbie Forbes Ruckle of Morgantown; her son, Bobby Forbes and wife Janet of Morgantown; 10 grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Linda Queen; and several nieces and nephews. She cherished her family deeply, and her love for them was evident in the way she supported, encouraged, and cared for those closest to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Corder Lee Queen and Eva Irena Queen; her husband, Robert Forbes; and her brother, Louis Queen. Their memory remained a part of her life, and she carried her family history with quiet dignity.
