KINGWOOD — A Kingwood woman faces charges of child neglect resulting in the Dec. 30 death of a 9-year-old child.
West Virginia State Police issued a warrant for the arrest of Lianna Marie King, 32, on July 23.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim, identified by police as L.S., died in Preston Memorial Hospital’s emergency department after being shot with a pellet gun by a 10-year-old child at King’s Pell Road residence.
According to a criminal complaint, the victim had been shot by the 10-year-old while the two were inside the home at 12:13 p.m. Both children had just exited a vehicle and entered the residence when the incident occurred. At the time, they were under the supervision of the 10-year-old’s mother, King, who remained in her vehicle parked in the driveway.
After the shooting, King reportedly drove the victim to the hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, the child died as a result of the injuries.
As of Tuesday, King was released on a $100,000 bond after pleading not guilty. There is no further charge or sentencing available at this time.
An obituary published in the Jan. 5 edition of the Dominion Post stated that Lane Easton Sines, 9, of Masontown, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, at Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood.
The obituary said Lane, a son of Dakota Sines of Arthurdale and Tavien Hovatter of Masontown, was a 4th-grader at West Preston School at the time of his death.
