John May

John W. May, 52, loyal friend and loving son, brother, nephew and uncle, unexpectedly passed away while hiking on July 29. John was an avid traveler and explorer who lived in California, West Virginia where he worked for years as a meticulous carpenter, and, most recently, New York City. He developed countless rich friendships wherever he landed and his intellectual curiosity knew no bounds. John’s twin passions in life were hiking and singing and playing music on the guitar, banjo and fiddle. He played in two bands around Morgantown, The Flying Listravians and Two Gun Sid, and also composed his own songs. His quirky and deep sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

John was a graduate of North Penn High School and the University of Pennsylvania. He also did post-graduate work at West Virginia University.

John is survived by his parents, Frank and Virginia May; his sister, Sandra May; and niece and nephew, Mason and Virginia Cassel.

A memorial service is being planned to be held in Bethlehem, Pa. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Nature Conservancy or just plant a tree. You can also remember John by taking time to help your friends.
