MORGANTOWN - Social media posts circulating Tuesday morning showing law enforcement officers at West Virginia University fraternity houses are tied to ongoing investigations into hazing.

According to a university spokesperson, two search warrants were served Oct. 26.

One of those warrants took officers to the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity house at 670 N. High St.

Lambda Chi Alpha is the same fraternity that was placed on interim suspension by the university on Oct. 9 following allegations of hazing.

A search warrant was also served at the Pi Kappa Alpha house at 117 Belmar Ave.

Posts on social media show numerous individuals in handcuffs and officers removing items from one of the houses, presumably Lambda Chi Alpha according to information included by poster.

The university didn’t respond to questions about how many, if any, individuals were arrested or what was seized from the properties.

"West Virginia University takes seriously the safety and well-being of our students," WVU Communications Director Shauna Johnson said via email. "Due to the nature of the investigations, no other details will be released at this time. We will provide updates as they become available."

West Virginia University Police were aided by local law enforcement agencies, including the Morgantown Police Department.
