Wonder Bubble takes lemonade to the next level

If you’ve been wondering about the food truck with brightly colored, retro-themed artwork that recently popped up next to Stray Cat Chimmi Shack on University Avenue in Star City, I’ve got the scoop.

Wonder Bubble peddles boba lemonade, a fascinating spin on boba tea. Customers can choose from a variety of flavored lemonades, each paired with nearly 10 options of bursting boba, ranging from classic strawberry to adventurous chili pepper.

Unlike traditional tapioca pearls, these bursting boba are beads of liquid fruit juice encased in an edible gelatin-like shell. Instead of the chewy tapioca experience, biting into one of these boba provokes an interesting popping sensation coupled with an explosion of flavor. The menu features unique lemonade and boba flavor combinations like Pretty in Pink (pink lemonade with strawberry and dragon fruit boba) and Island Punch Redux (pina colada lemonade with passion fruit boba), or customers can also build custom concoctions. For those seeking something with more of a kick, flavored cold brew coffee with coffee boba are also available.

Owner Katie de la Vega first began selling boba lemonade at her restaurant in Buckhannon and it quickly became so popular that she decided to take the show on the road. Since 2021, the Wonder Bubble truck has been making the rounds throughout the region, particularly in Clarksburg, Bridgeport and Grafton. However, for the next several months, de la Vega plans to tether her truck to the Morgantown area. Wonder Bubble will be open at 3417 University Ave. from noon- 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The Wonder Bubble team will also sling boba lemonade at fairs, festivals, local events and the occasional pop-up. Follow the truck’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/WonderBubbleWV) for updates on its travel schedule.
