Touch-a-Truck one of several events slated to raise awareness, show support

The City of Morgantown has several events planned to mark Municipal Government Week, held during the third week of October.

On Tuesday, students at Eastwood Elementary had an opportunity to explore all sorts of official vehicles during the city’s Touch-a-Truck event.

Vehicles included a fire truck, police cruiser, bucket truck, dump truck, airport snowplow, airport sweeper and more. Kids could sit on, touch and hear all about the equipment and how it serves the community.

Later on Tuesday, firefighters and police officers were honored during the city council meeting with a proclamation for their service to the community and a celebration of First Responders Day.

Today, there will be a mock city council meeting, set for 10 a.m. in the Municipal Court Room. Students from Morgantown High School will act as city council and administration. The public is invited to participate, particularly during the public input portion of the meeting.

Thursday will be Employee Appreciation Day and cotton candy will be made at every city building for employees to enjoy.

Municipal Government Week is marked every year during this time. From the steps of the State Capitol to the smallest towns and villages, public servants participate in ceremonies, information fairs, parades and other events to celebrate the workings of municipal government and to honor its employees.
