Earl Brotherton

With deep sadness and love the family of Earl Farris Brotherton Jr. announces that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 5, 2022. He was born in Morgantown on April 13, 1953, to Earl and Mary Brotherton.

Earl attended Clay-Battelle High school where he served as president of both the student council and student body and during his senior year, he attended the West Virginia Association of Student Councils Convention at Jackson’s Mill. When he was not busy with council activities, he could be found on the basketball court, where he was a starting forward that earned him entrance into the Letterman’s Club. In addition, he was a member of Thespians, Pep Club, Chess Club and Latin Club. Earl’s patience and creativity led him into carpentry, woodworking and tile work. His expertise can be found in many homes throughout Morgantown. Earl was a quiet, noble, courteous and kind soul who loved his cabin in nature’s beautiful landscape between Coopers Rock and Bruceton Mills. He joyfully tended to his hundreds of humming birds that flocked to him every spring. He will be dearly missed not only by his family but also by his long-time loyal friends within his neighborhood.

Earl is preceded in death by his mother, Mary, and his nephew, L.J. Haines. He is survived by his father, Earl, and wife Monica, of Canada; a sister, Barbara and her husband Steve Barnum; a nephew, Bryan Haines and niece Rachel Haines; and many extended family members.

A special thank you to the staff at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital who attended to Earl and also to Henry Clay Rehabilitation Center in Markleysburg, Pa. for their kind care. Earl said “my stay there was like being at Aunt Bee’s in Mayberry”; only kind words.

Keeping with his wishes, there will not be a formal public service. All arrangements are under the direction by the Donald R. Crawford Funeral Home Farmington, Pa.
