Demolition Days

Anderson Excavating knocks down buildings housing 221, 225 and 229 Pleasant Street Monday.

In October of last year, the second story of the former Wild Zero Studios location, at 229 Pleasant St., caught fire. At the time, Morgantown Fire Department Chief Mark Caravasos said no utilities were connected to the vacant structure. The department reported that there  were signs of entry into the back of the building. The fire caused roughly $25,000 in damages. There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The Locker Room, at 225 Pleasant St., was once a sportswear store. The address was also once home to Connie’s Minimart. According to The Dominion Post records, it was one of downtown’s oldest buildings, believed to be constructed in the 1850s.

And WVU’s West Virginia & Regional History Center says that 221 Pleasant St. was at one point a photography studio, called The Friends Studio. A portrait of Addison Dunlap Ellison was processed there in 1900. Ellison was a West Virginia University military cadet.
