Incumbent Angelucci narrowly defeated in 50th House race

Former Marion County commissioner and White Hall mayor Guy Ward was the leading vote-getter in the race for that county’s seat for 50th District House of Delegates.

Ward, a Republican, pulled down 11,281 votes in the  contest, which also saw the narrow defeat of incumbent Democrat Michael Angelucci.

Phil Mallow, a Republican, who had run for the House twice before, was also elected with 11,120 votes.

Political newcomer Joey Garcia, a Democrat, will be the third of Marion’s representatives in Charleston. He netted 10,851 votes in his first bid for elected office, just edging Angelucci, who brought in 10,777 votes.

Challengers Ron Straight and Darton McIntire received 9,341 and 8,436 votes, respectively.

All numbers are unofficial until after the canvass.
