It started with a quarantine and ended with a blowout victory over their neighbor to the west, as Clay-Battelle dominated in its season opener to defeat Valley-Wetzel (1-4), 48-13.
After Mon County fell into the red designation following an outbreak, Clay-Battelle lost four weeks of games, setting the team behind many of their peers. Then, things turned in Mon County and C-B’s favor, as a new metric system put the county back in the green.
As things looked promising and the team was boarding its bus to Calhoun County, the Cee-Bees good moods were dashed as an outbreak within the football program set them back another week. Things looked bleak as a quarantine was set, likely to carve out more of the already upsetting series of unfortunate events.
Then, hope once more shed its light on the program as a set of negative tests – two by the original infected member, according to WBOY – allowed C-B to play this week. But with just two full practices to prepare, it was unclear how the team would play.

Clay-Battelle (1-0) is scheduled to play Cameron (3-3) at home next Friday. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. The Dragons are coming off a win as well, a 34-26 victory over Tyler Consolidated.
