Mon Health conducts COVID-19 testing at various sites

MORGANTOWN — Mon Health System is providing COVID-19 testing at Mon Health Medical Center and its affiliated hospitals, and is partnering with Marion County Health Department in Fairmont for testing there.

In order to arrange testing, said Mon Health Administrator Romeo Tan, residents who think they are experiencing symptoms or have had contact with someone who’s tested positive should contact their primary care provider.

If the PCP agrees they need testing or screening, the PCP then faxes the Mon Health registration office to get the patient registered and scheduled for a visit.

The appointment order lets the testing site team know the person will be arriving, Tan said. The team will take the person’s information, verify their identity and get the test kit ready. Residents should bring a photo ID to the test site.

Jeff Haught, RN, hands Stephanie Davis, RN, prepare a COVID-19 testing kit at the Mon Health Medical Center drive-through testing site.

Along with Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, Mon Health is conducting tests at Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood, Grafton City Hospital and Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston. The procedures are the same at all for.

The procedures are also the same for those seeking testing in Fairmont, except Mon Health is not conducting those tests, Tan said. In those cases, Mon Health contacts Marion County Health Department and MCHD contacts the patient to set up the visit.

People seeking information on the COVID-19 virus or further guidance on testing can call the Mon Health COVID outreach line, Tan said, at 304-285-3798.

Residents without a PCP can also arrange testing, Tan said. Just call the call the COVID line for guidance on that. “We are absolutely able to test them and accommodate that.”

Testing is usually conducted the same day or next day, Tan said.

Federal COVID relief legislation forbids copays or coinsurance for testing, but Tan said some insurance companies have chosen not to cover the cost in full so insured residents contact their insurance company regarding that.

Test results depend on the labs workload, he said, and can take from 48 hours up to six days.
