Half of Preston students to get fed

Parents can sign up now for next week’ s meal deliveries

KINGWOOD — On Wednesday, nearly half of Preston County’s 4,300 students will receive delivery of meals for the next week.

“Right now, we have over 1,800 kids signed up, which means we have to prepare more than 18,000 meals,” Preston Superintendent Steve Wotring said Monday.

Once a week, the school system will deliver multi-day meal packets for any child 18 and under to points throughout the county.

School employees volunteered to work four-hour shifts Monday and today, 8 a.m.-noon and noon-4 p.m., at Preston High and Central Preston, to prepare the meals.

Signups are complete for this week’s delivery, but parents who want future deliveries can sign up on the   Preston County Schools Facebook page, where they can scan a QR code.

Anyone who can’t complete the QR code survey online can call and leave a message for their request to be added at 304-329-0580, Ext. 225 or 222. Friday is the deadline to sign up to receive meals next week.

Due to the overwhelming response, people who have not signed up in advance for meals Wednesday cannot be served.

“I think it will grow the longer this goes,” Wotring said of the number of students signed up for meals.

Delivery times and sites are available at PrestonCountySchools.com and below.

At drive-through locations, once the buses are onsite, parents will need to drive up to where the buses are parked. Those picking up meals should remain in their vehicles and will need to provide the names of the students and the total meal packets ordered.  Personnel will check off the list and provide the meal packets.

At pickup locations, after the bus parks, people should come to the bus one at a time and provide the names of the students and the number of meal packets ordered.  Personnel will check off the list and provide the meal packets either in the bus stairwell or from the back of the bus.  Personnel will have masks and gloves.
