Reedsville Council moves Rails-to-Trails project forward

REEDSVILLE — Reedsville Council is “continuing to move forward” with the Long Alley Rails-to-Trails project, according to Recorder Sandy Kisner.

Residents who live in the Long Alley area previously voiced concerns about parking and the possibility of people coming into their yards.

Councilman Greg Burke said at Monday’s council meeting that the town is searching for property pins so a parking pad can be added for one resident who lives on Long Alley. He said one pin was found but the second must be located to show property boundaries.

At the December council meeting, Preston County Parks and Recreation (PCPaR) President Dale McVicker said he believed something could be worked out about parking and trespassing.

“If it becomes a need we will put up a fence to keep people off his lawn,” he said.
In other business, council voted unanimously to purchase a $969.99 Taser for the town officer.

“I can understand why he wants a weapon other than his gun,” Burke said.
Kisner said letters have been sent to contractors interested in bidding on the Park Avenue project.

Burke said three contractors expressed interest in the project. He said John Williams and Colby Goldstrom are two of those contractors.

The bids are for storm sewer repair and replacement on both Park and Clark streets. The town wants to replace culverts and drop boxes in that area.

Councilman Jeff Stone said he would like a list of past projects that need to be addressed but were not.

“I’d like to have a list of old business that requires action,” Stone said. “We’re currently going back to the previous meeting list and that’s it.”

Stone said he would research and create a list and asked Kisner to do the same.

The next meeting of the Reedsville Council will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 27.
