The Preston Workshop honors employees, supporters at dinner

REEDSVILLE — The Preston Workshop honored employees, their families and supporters at its annual dinner, recently.

Now 42 years old, the workshop and its Hickory Ridge Farms generate $1.2 million in business for Preston County, Board of Directors President Tom McConnell said at the dinner.

Then we must be doing something right, joked Operations Manager John Hyre.

Part of what’s right is providing jobs for people, he noted.

Among those honored at the annual dinner for their service to the Preston Workshop were, left to right, Dakotah Hyre, Chris Brown, David Waybright, Ethan Braham and Jeremy Hyre.

Hickory Ridge Farm is operated by the Preston County Workshop, Inc. The 32.14 acre farm in Independence grows acorn, butternut, spaghetti and yellow squash; green beans; pumpkins; and tomatoes.

More than 40 people work on the farm in season. Hickory Ridge works with local farmers to grade, store, package and sell produce on the wholesale market.

The workshop also trains workers and helps them find employment in a variety of fields, including greenhouse work, crate and pallet fabrication, Fiberglass cutting and fabrication, lawn care, janitorial services and other areas.
