Dec. 24 marks last day of Salvation Army’s bell-ringing season

With another Christmas season quickly coming to a close, The Salvation Army’s bell-ringing season ends today.

“Our goal for the season was to do much better than we did last year, which was a little over $168,000. Last year, for various reasons, Red Kettle donations were down,” said Lt. Sheldon Greenland, Morgantown’s Corps commanding officer.

“It was a short season last year,” Greenland said. “So, we were a little concerned that we would not reach goal, but the Morgantown community came out in full support, and we could not be more thankful.’*

The funds raised through the campaign are used all year to support social service and outreach programs, from the hot-feeding program to buying toys for the “Forgotten Angels.”

“The Advisory Board wants to thank the kettle sponsors for stepping up and taking the lead in this campaign, as well as all of the bell ringers and volunteers — without each of them, we would not be able to have this campaign,” said Jack Bowman, longtime advisory board member. “And, not to be forgotten, all of the community members who dropped their spare change into the kettle. It goes further and does more than anyone knows. Thank you.”

While the campaign is coming to a close, The Salvation Army will continue to feed, clothe and help all members of the Morgantown community year-round. Without each person who gave that would not be possible.

From The Salvation Army to each of you, we wish you all the merriest of Christmases and blessings in the New Year.
