Accident at W.Va. 7 and Darst St. causes delays

A 64-year-old man was taken to the hospital following an accident that closed W.Va. 7 for about a half hour on Thursday afternoon.

Arnold Statler Sr. thought he broke his arm and had something wrong with his leg, his daughter Melissa Hines said. She said her leg hurt but she was worried about her dad.

Hines said she was driving west on W.Va. 7 towards Morgantown when another vehicle — a Subaru Legacy — turned from Darst Street and struck the front passenger side of her 2019 Jeep Latitude, which she bought about two months ago.

Statler was a front seat passenger in Hines’ Jeep.

The impact set off airbags on both sides of the Jeep. No airbags went off in the Subaru, driven by Jackie Vyuse.

Vyuse said she was on Darst Street trying to turn east on W.Va. 7 towards Preston County and she didn’t see anything before she pulled out and was struck by Hines. She said the impact was so hard her car spun around.

The accident was reported at 2:58 p.m. and the road was reopened after both vehicles were towed away at 3:32 p.m.

Mon EMS, the Morgantown Police Department and the Morgantown Fire Department responded to the scene.
