Students take part in service projects during WVU Welcome Week

WVU’s Welcome Week is underway. The activities and events are meant to integrate students into campus life and culture, with a balance of academic, service and social components.

Sunday and Monday, first-year students who were interested could participate in an adventure/campus recreation activity through Adventure WV or a community service project through the Center for Service and Learning.

Among the service opportunities, students could make improvements to green space along the Falling Run trail; harvest produce at the university’s organic farm; maintain historic buildings; assist with organizing a large donation of new children’s clothes for distribution to communities throughout West Virginia; cut, tie and sew labels on blankets for Project Linus as well as prepare activity packets for a Moment of Magic and Girls on the Run.

The following adventure/campus recreation activities will offered today:

— paddling/canoe/kayak at the Star City Park boat ramp area
— High ropes/canopy tour at the WVU Outdoor Education Center
Club sports sampler at Mylan Park
