‘Opulent,’ ‘rustic’ Greystone house going up for auction

The property at 4111 Cove Point Drive will be up for auction Nov. 16-20 at ConciergeAuctions.com. A preview event will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. Tuesday.

MORGANTOWN — Opulence and rustic warmth.
Those two descriptors, which might not seem all that similar at first, meld seamlessly at 411 Cove Point Drive in Greystone.
Sitting on 1 3/4 acres beside Cheat Lake, 4111 Cove Point will be up for auction in mid-November through Concierge Auctions. It’s an appropriate undertaking for the one-of-a-kind property, said Carly Von Haven, project sales manager with the auction company.
“Auctions are kind of for very unique properties. So not necessarily huge homes but for homes that don’t really have any comparables,” she said.
Walk into the 13,470-square-foot home, and you’ll see what she’s talking about. Upon entry, visitors are greeted by a 30-foot-long, 18-foot-wide indoor pool that wraps around under the stairs to become a 44-foot-long lap pool.
Six bedrooms. Nine bathrooms. Docking for six boats and three jet skis. Glass windows that open up onto vast deck spaces, tree-lined paths, and water and mountain views.
It’s a West Virginia paradise, said Anna Marie Stephens, a Realtor with Howard Hanna Premier Properties by Barbara Alexander.
“It’s a very grand entry. There’s a lot of grand areas because of the soaring ceilings and all the glass, but it also has a very warm and fuzzy feeling. It’s very homey,” Stephens said.
Howard Hanna, which had the home listed for about a year, decided to pair up with Concierge to auction off the rare property.
Originally listed at $4.5 million and then lowered to $3.8 million, the home was built in 1996 and has only been owned by two people. The current owner purchased it in 2000.
The right side of the house consists of five bedrooms, with the left side featuring living space, except for the apartment over the garage where the sixth bedroom is located. The pool area separates the two living areas, and the lap pool doubles as a swim-up pool to a stone and granite bar on the lower level. The pool, by the way, doesn’t give off a strong chlorine odor, thanks to the commercial ventilation system. And those worried about safety can completely lock off the pool area with gates and doors.
In the living areas, you’ll find opulent chandeliers, paired with stone accents on the walls, including a large stone fireplace in the main living space.
“From the front of the house, you drive up and you have beautiful stone, not only on the house, but in the driveway and around the koi pond that’s in the front of the house as you enter,” Stephens said.
A sunroom is just one space that offers floor-to-ceiling views of the great outdoors.
“The whole house has views of the lake and mountains the way it’s positioned,” Stephens said.
Head outside onto one of the many decks, and they all connect with stairs, walkways, driveways and cart paths, which stretch all the way down to the lake and dock area. There’s even a hot tub on the back deck for chilly nights under the stars.
One of the most unique aspects though, Stephens said, is the RV garage, a 50-foot-long space with a 14-foot-tall door, a power source for charging and a dump station.
Anyone interested in bidding on the property, as well as Realtors, agents or even those who like architectural design, is invited to a preview event Tuesday with a catered lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and a wine and cheese night from 4-7 p.m. Von Haven is at the home daily from 1-4 p.m. for public open houses and other times by appointment.
The home will be auctioned online Nov. 16-20. It’s a no-reserve auction, which means there is no minimum bid.
Von Haven said she’s interested to see the outcome of the auction.
“It’s magnificent, honestly. The high ceilings. It’s so spacious. The windows are phenomenal. The unbeatable views of the lake throughout the entire home. It honestly is kind of encapsulated in the trees as well, which kind of makes you feel like you’re in a tree house, but at the same time, just the grandeur of the chandeliers, you know, it’s still so high class,” she said.
“It’s homey and rustic, but it’s so luxurious at the same time.”
