Terra Alta plans Fourth of July festivities in community park

TERRA ALTA — Terra Alta Community Park will again be a place for fun and relaxation on the Fourth of July.

Bring a chair or grab a bench and spend the day mingling or observing the activities and just relaxing in the shade. Activities will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Jewel of the Alleghenies Quilt Show will be on display in the community building at the park. A special Americana quilt made by local quilters will be raffled off for this show..

A special guest appearance will be made by a Betsy Ross re-enactor, who will speak about her role in the founding of the nation.

The 249th Army National Guard Band will perform a free concert, starting at 11 a.m. You won’t want to mss this or the following performance by the Vandells.

Other activities will include a dog show at 10 a.m., on the lower ball field. Registration for the show will begin at 9:30 a.m., or pick up a registration form at town hall this week. The show is sponsored by the Preston County Humane Society and TABI (Terra Alta Betterment Inc.).

A car show will line up on Caldwell Street. It is sponsored by Clear Mountain Bank and Chase Trucking. Trophies will be awarded.

Carriage rides, sponsored by the Terra Alta and Aurora VFW women, will be available at the entrance to the park.

A corn hole tournament will start at noon, on the lower ball field. Bring a partner and enter for $20 a team, payable upon entering.

Other activities and vendors will be set up throughout the park. Plenty of food and drinks will be available, so you won’t have to cook at home. Or spread a blanket, bring your own picnic lunch and enjoy the day at the park.
