Torrential rainfall leads to flooding throughout the area

MORGANTOWN — Torrential rainfall overnight led to severe flooding in north central West Virginia on Friday.

Preston County has had two inches of rain since Thursday.

As a result, the rains caused a mudslide on W.Va. 72, which has been cleared by road crews.

In addition, there have been multiple reports of minor vehicle accidents throughout the area.

Current AccuWeather forcasts anticipate that the rain will turn to snow later this afternoon in Preston County.

Preston County schools also announced early Friday morning that they would operate on a two-hour delay due to the flooding.

Also, all Marion County schools are closed, and Clay-Battelle High School and Mason-Dixon Elementary school are closed in Monongalia County.
