Nonprofit founds fellowship program to keep people in-state

CHARLESTON — Generation West Virginia (GWV) is a statewide nonprofit with the mission to attract talented individuals to the Mountain State, in an effort to grow a declining population.

West Virginia, a state that has seen a decline in population of over 37,000 people since 2010 (according to the United States Census Bureau), has many innovative and growing industries.

Natalie Roper, executive director of GWV, believes the declining population is due, in part, to many young people leaving the state to pursue better job opportunities.

This loss of talent creates a significant hole in West Virginia’s talent pipeline. Companies begin to struggle with finding qualified candidates and young people struggle to find good jobs that will allow them to stay in the Mountain State.

With these concerns in mind, GWV has founded the fellowship program, Impact WV.
