Dorothy Jezerick Hosey, a cherished member of her community and beloved matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully Monday, December 1, 2025, at the age of 95. She was born February 2, 1930, in Willard, Ky., a daughter to the late Louis and Thelma Pennington Jezerick. She lived a long, vibrant life that touched the hearts of many.
Dorothy was raised in Fayetteville (Gatewood). Upon completing high school, she joined the Logan Banner newspaper. She moved to Morgantown after getting married and became a real estate broker, a career that spanned more than five decades. She then utilized her exceptional bookkeeping abilities, working for Mercury Coal among others. Remarkably, Dorothy continued her meticulous bookkeeping work for Javins Corporation until the age of 92, demonstrating her sharp mind and remarkable skills.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dorothy was known for her brilliance and kind spirit. Her hobbies included vegetable gardening and caring for flowers, sewing, and tole painting. She found joy in traveling with her family, especially flying with her brother, Gene and his wife. Dorothy also enjoyed attending Mountaineer football and basketball games.
Dorothy’s legacy lives on through her loving family. She is survived by her children: Charles “Spike” L. Hosey (Tina) of Manassas, Va.; Patricia G. Chapman (William) of La Quinta, Calif.; Debra “Bunny” Javins (Brooks) of Morgantown; grandchildren, Sean Hosey (Ashley), Brooke Suzanne Meyouhas, John Javins, Michelle Hosey Adams (Gene), Lauren Chapman (Kyle Callaghan), and Beth Javins- Lawson (Tadd); great- grandchildren, Kaylin Johnson, Oliver Meyouhas, Jordan Pendergrass, Payton Pretzel, Peter Hosey, Kadin Pendergrass, and Louis Lawson, along with her newest great-grandson, Jacob Lawson. Dorothy also leaves behind her beloved brother, Charles Roger Jerzerick, whom she raised, residing in Lewisberry, Pa.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in- law, Louis Eugene and Petra Jerzerick; great- grandsons, Liam Everett Lawson and Jett Allen Lawson; sister-in-law, Karen Jerzerick; and former husband, C. William Hosey.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Friends and family will be received to celebrate Dorothy’s life in Suncrest United Methodist Church, 479 Van Voorhis Road, Morgantown, Monday, December 8 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12 noon, with the Rev. Larry Buckland officiating.
