Harvey J. Stabene, Jr.

Harvey J. Stabene, Jr., 75 of Barre City, Vermont, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Central Vermont Medical Center.
Born on September 7, 1950, in Morgantown, W.Va., the son of Harvey and Ruth Cooley Stabene, Sr.
He attended Elementary School in Morgantown and graduated from Morgantown High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the 10th Special Forces Group as a Green Beret from 1968 to 1971.
In 1972, he married Edith Petersen in Greenville, N.H. Following their marriage, they made their home in New Hampshire for several years. In 1979, they moved to Vermont when Harvey started employment at Cabot Hosiery (Darn Tough), where he worked for 38 years, retiring in 2016.
Harvey was a member of the American Legion Post #10 of Barre, and in his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, outdoor sports, smoking meats on the BBQ, gardening, and he also enjoyed quiet time in the pool.
Surviving are his wife, Edith Stabene; daughter Melissa Mason (Michelle); and son Harvey Stabene III (Laura); grandchildren Taylor and Rourke Delancey; brother-in-law Robert Petersen; nephews and their families in Massachusetts; and cousins and their families in West Virginia.
Per his wishes, there will be no services.
